{"id":2708,"date":"2013-11-19T14:02:42","date_gmt":"2013-11-19T22:02:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/frenchbulldogsla.com?p=2708"},"modified":"2017-05-03T22:58:59","modified_gmt":"2017-05-04T05:58:59","slug":"bandaging-your-injured-french-bulldog","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/frenchbulldogsla.com\/?p=2708","title":{"rendered":"Bandaging Your Injured French Bulldog"},"content":{"rendered":"<section  class='av_textblock_section av-av_textblock-0366cc7376be6c9e82a3e9cc8987b64f '   itemscope=\"itemscope\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/BlogPosting\" itemprop=\"blogPost\" ><div class='avia_textblock'  itemprop=\"text\" ><p>Owning a French Bulldog is a big responsibility and some might even compare that responsibility to that of having a baby. <em>The advantage of having a dog instead of a baby, is that the dog won&#8217;t grow older and turn into a stressful teenager.<\/em> \u00a0Since dogs can be viewed as babies, it is foreseeable that they will possibly end up in dangerous or unsafe situations. \u00a0French Bulldogs can become trapped in small spaces or get hit by something that will injure one of their limbs. \u00a0It is important to learn how to bandage your Frenchie if this situation ever arises to keep the limb from becoming further injured. \u00a0The following are the basic ways of bandaging your injured French Bulldog.<\/p>\n<p>1. <strong>\u00a0<\/strong><em>When your Frenchie has a bandage, it should always be kept clean and dry.<\/em> \u00a0It is very important to make sure your healing dog stays inside most of the time while the bandage is in place. \u00a0If you live in a wet climate, when your dog goes outside to use the bathroom it is a good idea to wrap a plastic bread bag or trash bag around the bandage to keep it dry. \u00a0Also, it is important that you check the bandage a few times per day for foul odors or discharge. \u00a0<em>If you find either of these things you should contact your vet immediately.<\/em> \u00a0You should note that keeping the bandage clean and dry could require you to change it a few times per day.<\/p>\n<p>2. \u00a0After you bring your Frenchie home from the vet you will need to check the bandage to make sure it is still secured in the correct spot. \u00a0Sometimes the dog may attempt to scratch or chew the bandage off. \u00a0Look closely at the position of the bandage as it might have slipped up or down the pet. \u00a0The bandage could have also become loose on one end, especially if the abdomen or leg have been bandaged. \u00a0When the bandage becomes too loose or stretched out, it is time to change the bandage.<\/p>\n<p>3. \u00a0If your Frenchie has a bandage on it&#8217;s leg you need to make sure it&#8217;s not wrapped too tightly. \u00a0Pay attention to how the toes appear at the bottom of the bandage at least two times per day. \u00a0This will indicate sweating, swelling or pain in the leg. \u00a0<em>Check for skin chaffing, redness, discharge or swelling both before and after changing the bandage.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>4. \u00a0To prevent your French Bulldog from chewing on the bandage place them in a cone collar. \u00a0If your Frenchie is still trying to chew or scratch in excess you should consult your vet.<\/p>\n<p>Please remember that any of the following symptoms will warrant an immediate trip to the vet:<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Swelling above or below the bandage<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Chewing the bandage<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Bandage becomes wet<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Bleeding or discharge above, below or through the bandage<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Scheduled bandage changes<\/p>\n<p><iframe src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/mnk7M7y4x90\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<\/div><\/section>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Owning a French Bulldog is a big responsibility and some might even compare that responsibility to that of having a baby.
